Water and sewerage costs
Can I charge the tenant for the cost of having the water and sewerage connected to the property?
No. It is the owner's responsibility to have utilities such as water and sewerage connected to the property. However, in most areas in Australia tenants may be charged for all or part of the water usage costs. This will vary from region to region and, if you choose, your LJ Hooker property investment manager can receive your rates notices and pay them on your behalf out of the rental income, then invoice the tenant for their portion.
