Pets

Am I allowed to keep pets in my rented accommodation?

Only if approved by your agent or the owner of the property and noted on your Tenancy Agreement. If you are renting in "common title" properties, the body corporate may have the final say regarding pets.

The type of pet may also be a contributing factor as to whether or not permission is granted.

If during your tenancy you decide you would like to get a pet, you should speak to the agent or the owner before doing so. You could be asked to find another home for the pet if prior approval is not obtained.

While you may be given permission to have a pet in the property you are currently renting, you may wish to consider the effect having a pet might have on any subsequent property you may want to rent in the future where you are not allowed to keep a pet. Most people become very close to their pets and rehousing them can be a very traumatic experience. You may also be granted conditional permission for a pet, e.g. fumigation when vacating the property.
