Our office is situated in the main street in Kaitaia. Kaitaia is the last major service centre in the north, with a population of approximately 6,000 and servicing a further 20,000 from the surrounding areas. The major industries in the area are farming, agriculture, tourism, forestry and fishing.
The most Northern point of New Zealand is Cape Reinga which is approx an hour and half drive north of Kaitaia. Cape Reinga is a majestic place, where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet. Nearby is Spirits Bay, which has great significance to Maori because they believe the spirits leave this world from here. Tours to Cape Reinga are available via Ninety-Mile Beach. Local coach drivers offer a comprehensive full day tour with many stops. These include the Ancient Kauri Kingdom, Wagener Park, which is privately owned and situated at Houhora Heads, Rarawa Beach, with it's silica sands, Tapotupotu Bay, a beautiful sandy bay nestled in the hills on the eastern side of Cape Reinga, and finally the Te Paki stream with its quick sand and sand dunes. Along the way you can stop for a spot of surfcasting or tobogganing down the steep sand dunes.
Every year Kaitaia hosts the Ninety-Mile Lion Red Snapper Classic Fishing Competition. The Far North is well known for its quality and quantity of fish and shellfish.
If you visit the Ancient Kauri Kingdom in Awanui, just north of Kaitaia, you will see the massive 30,000 to 50,000 year old Kauri logs. These logs are winched from local swampland and transformed into high quality, unique products. The Ancient Kauri Kingdom has a monster log in their showroom, which features an internal spiral staircase.
Ahipara is a small township based at the southern end of Ninety-Mile Beach and is famous for the top class surfing at Shipwreck Bay. Ride the huge sand dunes on 4 wheel motorbikes or trek the beach by horseback.
Okahu Estate produces award-winning wine. The winery is situated 3.5km from Kaitaia on the road to Ahipara.
