Waihi Beach is in the Bay of Plenty. The Waihi Beach area stretches for about 8 kilometres along the beach and penetrates about 3 kilometres inland. At one end is Athenree, which is close to the tip of the entrance to Tauranga's harbour. At the other end is the small Waihi Beach shopping centre, which has a supermarket, chemist, bookshop, butchery, cafe and takeaways shop and several real estate offices.
